Ach an Eas NHS Care Home
Island Bank Road
Service on 4th Sunday of every month
3pm – 3.30pm
Ness Bank Church’s involvement with Ach an Eas started in late 1995 when the Manager asked if Ness Bank would like to take part in a rota with other groups to lead informal worship for the residents there.
This was taken up by Angus Mackenzie, a member of our Kirk Session, who undertook to make arrangements for the first visit on a Sunday at the end of January the following year.
In March 1996 it was reported in our newsletter that six Ness Bankers led a short act of worship, which was well received by the residents who joined in with the singing.
It is now 25 years since that first service took place and the residents and staff are still enjoying our visits.
We now have a small team of 12, one of whom covers the monthly church services in rotation so that the short address each month is given by a different church member.
As in the beginning we are ably supported by our church organist, Bridget Black, on piano and Julia MacDonald, who also plays piano for us as well as playing her guitar. We are accompanied by members of our choir which ensures that we have lovely singing of the psalms and hymns which we, as well as the residents, can enjoy and take part in.
Our service includes 3 or 4 psalms/hymns, a bible reading, a prayer and a short address by one of our regular team members as mentioned above.
We look forward so much to our regular visit to the residents and staff whom we have got to know so well. It is a joyous and uplifting 30 minutes bringing our fellowship from Ness Bank to the residents of Ach an Eas.
We are looking for new members to come and join us to chat with the residents and join in the singing. Everyone is welcome whether you can only come occasionally or can come on a regular basis we will be delighted to have you join us.
